I will jump on the bandwagon and say.... can't believe it's been almost twenty years. I also agree with what Darren Watts said about not really thinking about your childhood until your kids start going through things that you remember going through. It's exciting, fun, and excruciatingly painful all at the same time.
After ten years of moving around in the Air Force (Texas, New Mexico, S.Korea, North Carolina, Alaska), we ended up in Alaska and fell in love with it. Then, since the kids were getting older, we decided that our family needed some roots to grow up on. Thankfully, FedEx has a base in Anchorage and all of the pieces seemed to fall into place. So after ten years of flying F-111s and F-15Es in the Air Force, I am now flying MD-11s all over the world with FedEx. It's a great job and allows me the chance to see the world as well as plenty of family time at home to do all the stuff we love to do in Alaska. We ski, snowshoe, and sled all winter long, and spend every spare day camping and fishing in the summer. Karin and I have been married for 15 wonderful years and have Tanner (12), Alexis (10) and Spencer (8). We have been blessed with great kids and have had a great time (normal parental struggles not-withstanding) raising them. Karin was an elementary school teacher before we had kids, and now she's going back to school to be a nurse. So with her in school, subbing at the kids' schools, and all of the kids activities.... our life is nonstop. Couldn't dream of a better family or a better place to raise the kids than Anchorage. Where else can you shop at Nordstroms, hike a 5,000' mountain, and catch a 50 pound salmon in a raging river all within a 20 minute drive?
Anyway, hope the last twenty years has been good to you. I don't know what our plans for summer 2007 are, but I hope to make it to the reunion, catch a Mariners game, and take the kids by the old homestead. Thanks to all who are putting in the time and effort to make it happen.
Cheers,
Matt |

Matt,
It is great to hear that you are enjoying life up in Alaska. It sounds like paradise with a chill. At least all of it except for the Nordstroms part. Congratulations on finding some sense of normalcy with your family in this crazy world. It sounds like you have a wonderful wife and kids. It is so much fun to watch them grow. I was watching my son’s basketball practice the other day and found myself comparing the kids to you, Dan, Kevin, John and Dave. It is funny how they years go by but the roles are filled by similar players. Just wait for your son to spend every extra minute searching Craigslist or Ebay for their first car or their next pair of Jordan’s. Now driving, that is excruciatingly painful. If I can only find out where you can get the passenger side brake installed in our car while our son is going through Driver’s Ed, I would have the weight of the world off of my shoulders. You will be going through it soon enough. Laura, are you there yet?
I hope you can make it out for the Reunion. If you do talk to Dan, have him post where he is working now. I heard somewhere on the east side. Gone are the good old days when I would run into Dan or Wendy at Scott’s Bar and Grill. For some reason it is always in some restaurants or kids sporting events that I see old classmates. If you get a chance, post some pics of you and your family. I am sure that everyone would like to see you even if it is just on the screen.
Take care,
Darren

Hey Matt! So good to see you're happy and healthy; sounds like you've got a real nice family too. I've thought about you so many times over the years as my most treasured memories of high school are from that music room. Love ya, Sara (Hornbacher) Bader |

I was going to write the exact same thing in my post to you -- how I think about what Mr. Burton said to us so, so, so many times. "Never again will you have the opportunity to sing for one or two hours a day - and you're going to miss it." He was so right. "Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas" done the Burton way is what gets stuck in my head. And "Hallelujah Chorus". I still remember every note. Good to hear from you, Sara (Hornbacher) Bader

| Wow - I'm glad to hear everything is going well. Isn't it amazing where you can end up in life? Alaska sounds great, I spent a year and a half in northern Ontario so I can appreciate the plusses and minuses of life in the far north. Have a wonderful New Year. Krista |

Greetings right back at you Matt! I'm not suprised to hear you have found a wonderful life; I always viewed you as a good guy who, despite making it look easy, worked hard for everything you got. I haven't chimed in too much on the site thus far being the removed observer, much like I was at MHS. But I felt compelled to add a note here because I always remember earlier days at Beverly Elem when you and Eric befriended me and then later playing on the Jets soccer team. And as I recall, didn't you play for the team with Black uniforms in Pacific Little League. It is funny how a little reminicsing can open the flood gates of memories you would never otherwise consider. Anyways, fly safe, good luck on the water, and hope to see you this summer!
